As the Experimental Archaeologist at Butser Ancient Farm, I am responsible for leading all research activities at this long-established centre for experimental archaeology, which has been at the forefront of archaeological reconstruction and education for over 50 years. My background is in archaeological science, with a particular focus on high-temperature technologies, including metallurgy, ceramics, and glass. My research interests lie in the experimental reconstruction of ancient production processes to better understand the technological choices, skills, and sensory experiences involved in craftworking in the past. At Butser, I combine practical experimentation with public engagement, contributing to academic research while also promoting wider understanding of archaeology through immersive, hands-on experiences.
