From 1971 to 2013 I taught archaeology at Reading University where I held a personal chair from 1987. Recent publications include The Prehistory of Britain and Ireland (revised edition 2019), A Comparative Study of Rock Art in Later Prehistoric Europe (2020), and Temporary Palaces: the Great House in European Prehistory (2021)
