Archaeology, Roman art and culture, especially the sculpture, bronze figurines, jewellery and gems from Roman Britain.; Roman religion both pagan and Christian;and the cultural transition from Late Antiquity to the early Middle Ages (c.350-700); the influence of the Roman past in the Middle Ages; the history of archaeology and the history of collecting.
Geographic Areas:
Although I am mainly concerned with the art of Roman Britain, I draw on comparanda from the Empire as a whole and especially from contiguous provinces. I have studied/and continue to study intaglios and cameos in collections from throughout the Roman world.
