Archaeology, Roman art and culture, especially sculpture, bronze figurines, jewellery and gems; Roman religion both pagan and Christian; the cultural transition from Late Antiquity to the early Middle Ages (c.350-700); the use of the Roman past in the Middle Ages; the history of archaeology and of collecting.
Geographic Areas:
I am mainly concerned with Roman Britain, although drawing on the Empire as a whole for comparanda. I have studied/and continue to study intaglios and cameos in collections from throughout the Roman world.
