This introduction summarises critical issues relating to perceptions of an African cultural landscape and specifically engages in a discussion of how people in Africa connect with their landscapes emotively and intimately and how the chapters in this Volume Part connect with these issues through examinations of landscape monumentality, tangibility and intangibility, Indigenous concepts of landscape, and maritime and biocultural landscapes.
